OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe in design that is thoughtful, sustainable, and beautiful.

We believe a well-planned space has the power to greatly enhance the way you live while treading lightly on the planet.

We believe in the potential of your home and work with you hand-in-hand to make your wish list a reality.

We believe that walking into your home should bring you comfort, contentment, and delight. With busy schedules and a hectic world we need this more than ever.

We believe in building smarter rather than bigger.

We believe in designing a home right the first time so you only have to design it once.

How do we achieve this? As a residential interior architecture and design firm we focus on creating designs that maximize every square inch of your existing space. We select durable materials that will withstand the rigors of daily life. We research our sources to assure we are using products and services that have low environmental impact. We eschew trends in favor of timeless design while still creating spaces that are unique to who you are and how you live.

As a New England based firm, we have completed projects throughout the Greater Boston area, Cape Cod and the Islands and have also engaged in design projects on the west coast, including California and Washington. With over 20 years in the design industry we have a vast network of high-quality contractors, vendors, and craftspeople to collaborate with to deliver a seamless design process from start to finish.

OUR PROCESS

THOUGHTFUL
We listen carefully and work closely with you to create a thoughtfully designed home. Our expertise in interior architecture, design, space planning and attention to detail allow us to deliver spaces that work perfectly for you. We collaborate with the finest contractors and craftspeople so your project is a smooth and enjoyable experience.
BEAUTIFUL
Beautiful means something different to each client we work with. Whether our clients prefer modern, traditional, or something in-between, our firm specializes in bringing beauty and comfort to each project.
SUSTAINABLE
Designing a space right the first time is the most important step to creating sustainable home. Using intelligent design practices, materials, and construction methods we are able to deliver our clients a home that withstands trends and treads lightly on the planet. We love reusing existing furnishings, and sourcing products from vendors with green business practices to help lessen the burden on our planet.

Photos: Sabrina Cole Quinn - Working with long-time clients we renovated their dark, dated, and poorly laid out kitchen. By adding additional windows where the sink is now located we were able to bring in more light and a great view of the backyard. We captured space from an unused side vestibule entrance to create a walk-in pantry for the family of avid cooks and bakers. The space was too narrow to have an island with clear traffic flow on all sides so we created a built-in banquette seat for dining and working. Bookshelves on the ends of the island serve as dining spots for the family's two dogs with storage drawers on the banquette ends for their respective food containers. Wanting a cheerful and happy place to cook in, we opted for a bold coral wallpaper accent wall to round out the fun and functional space. This project won two awards at the 2020 BRAGB Prism awards for excellence in design. Construction by Fresh Start, Inc.

TESTIMONIALS

What our clients and industry partners are saying about working with us

In fifteen years of pretty intense work as a builder I have dealt with a lot of architects and designers and, to be honest, without question you two absolutely have blown the formula for perfection out of the water. When we committed to building our new home we were a little nervous, and now that it’s complete, in reflection, without you guys it would have been a completely different scenario.

Peter, Arlington

We were extremely pleased with Melissa and her staff. They are very professional and attentive to detail. It was easy to explain to her the concept of what we liked and she was excellent at bringing the concepts and ideas to fruition. They are responsive to our concerns and carried out the management portion of the project very well, which took a lot of stress away from us. We both work and we are very busy, so it was great to rely on Melissa and Meg. We have no reservations in recommending them to our friends and family

Iris, Lexington

"The Hammond Design team helps projects run seamlessly, with solid plans that take clients unique vision from concept to reality. Melissa has a deep understanding of space planning and material selection, which she uses to create the “image” that we then produce. The end results are so beautiful that her work really speaks for itself."

"Melissa really took the time to get to know our family and to understand how we would use our spaces. The work we did with Hammond Design has made our home feel like such a relaxing place to be - so comfortable, so inviting and so pleasurable to live in. When the project was finished I can remember thinking, I knew it would be good, but it’s even better than I imagined."

"Melissa is not only experienced, but a great listener and so approachable. She took away the angst of decision-making and instead gave me confidence and excitement about making design choices. Melissa helped us create a home that fits the way we live and the results are stunning."

Hammond Design is easy to work with and has the best ideas. Creative ideas I would never have thought of and that is what I am looking for in a design firm. Can't wait to engage with you on the next project
